Integrated
IT & Telecom Networking at the Municipality of Heraklion in
Crete
10 June 2001: The
IT & Telecommunications Networking company Computerbank Networking
SA, acting in its capacity as Value-Added Distributor, supplied
the active and passive networking material and equipment for the
demanding project of the Municipality
of Heraklion, titled "Integrated IT & Telecom
Networking of All Services". Main contractor of he project
was OTE
SA, the Greek Telecommunications Organisation.
The project
covered the networking needs of all the municipal buildings. The
local networks of each building is WAN-linked to all the others,
aiming at offering full electronic services to users. Such services
include
· e-Mail
· Data transfer
· Access to data bases located either in the Municipality or in
other locations
· WEB server
· Videoconference
· Multimedia applications, etc.
Molex Premise
Networks' structured cabling and Cabletron/Enterasys
Networks' SmartSTACK/Vertical
Horizon stackable switches are used for interconnection of
workstations within buildings, while the central WAN router is
X-Pedition/SmartSwitch
Router of the same manufacturer. Cabletron/Enterasys NetSight
Element Manager software is used for the network control,
administration and management.
